INCEIF Knowledge Repository Policy
1.0 Purpose
- • The purpose of this policy is to establish a framework within which INCEIF Knowledge Repository (IKR) is managed, in order to ensure that IKR reflects, strengthen and support INCEIF’s vision to be the knowledge leader in Islamic finance.
2.0 Application & Scope
- • This policy applies to all users of the INCEIF’s institutional repository (IKR).
3.0 Definition & Abbreviation
- • IKR (the Repository): INCEIF Knowledge Repository - to collect, manage, preserve, showcase and share works and publications produced by members of INCEIF community.
- • INCEIF KMC: refers to INCEIF Knowledge Management Centre.
- • CRP: refers to Centre of Research and Publication.
- • IC: Intellectual Contribution – the scholarly contribution of INCEIF staff, researchers and or faculty members.
- • OAI-PMH: refers to Open Archive Initiative – Protocol for Metadata Harvesting; a protocol developed for harvesting or collecting metadata descriptions of records in an archive so that services can be built using metadata from many archives.
- • Dublin Core: The Dublin Core is an initiative to create a digital ‘library card catalog’ for the Web. It is made up of a set of 15 standard metadata elements that facilitate indexing and searching of electronic resources in the World Wide Web.
- • Metadata: A set of data that describes and gives information about other data.
- • Guest user: refers to the Repository’s user with public access.
- • Subscribed user: refers to all users who are subscribed to INCEIF KMC’s membership.
4.0 Policy Content
4.1 Purpose of IKR | 4.1.1 IKR will collect, manage, preserve, showcase and share INCEIF’s knowledge and thought leadership to be discovered by a global audience |
4.2 Acquisition & Accession | 4.2.1 IKR shall contain scholarly works, expert insights, theses and learning materials of INCEIF’s knowledge community (Faculty members, staffs, students and alumni). |
4.2.2 To be eligible to have your publications showcased in IKR, authors must be members of the knowledge community at time of publication, submission or reporting. Contributions may include authors, staffs and researchers external to INCEIF, if they are co-authoring with INCEIF authors or are affiliated with INCEIF at the time of publication. | |
4.2.3 INCEIF KMC shall acquire material for inclusion in IKR through various University channels and seek approval from its respective author(s) or creator(s) for accession into IKR. | |
4.2.4 Materials shall be accessioned into the Repository via submission by KMC through knowledge capturing of INCEIF’s knowledge (subject to INCEIF Research and Publication Policy), through submission/donation by participating departments or bodies and INCEIF knowledge community. Acquisitions may additionally be made via gift, bequest, licensing agreement and service specific needs. | |
4.2.5 Examples of content types appropriate to the Repository includes:

4.3 Availability & Access | 4.3.1 Full-text or digital information (objects) uploaded in IKR may be acquired from or by INCEIF knowledge communities, subscribed users and their affiliates. |
4.3.2 The contents made available on IKR can be accessed by:

4.3.3 The material in IKR is intended to be discoverable by both guest and subscribed users via the Repository's web site (https://ikr.inceif.org) and most common search engines such as Google, Yahoo! and Bing. | |
4.3.4 Wherever possible, the full text of the material is made available for subscribed users, subject to user’s privilege, copyright law and license agreements. | |
4.3.5 For guest users, the full text will not be made available for either view or download, but the Repository provides detailed metadata and location information of the items. | |
4.3.6 All material in IKR contains bibliographic details (metadata) such as author, title etc. which is made available for harvesting by most common search engines via OAI-PMH. | |
4.3.7 The metadata schema used throughout by the Repository will be principally based on Dublin Core, in accordance to INCEIF Metadata Entry Guidelines. | |
4.4 Usage & Copyright | 4.4.1 The contents made available on IKR by INCEIF KMC are either:

4.4.2 All users will be expected to use materials in the repository within the copyright limits as according to the Malaysian law on copyright (Copyright Act 1987 and other related regulations) and copyright law of other respective database provider's countries, and subject to INCEIF’s Anti Plagiarism Policy. | |
4.4.3 Users may access and use the items in the repository for personal research or study, educational, or not‐for‐profit purposes without prior permission, provided that:

4.4.4 Full text of the items shall not be sold commercially, made copies or distribute to other parties in any format or medium without formal permission of the copyright holders. | |
4.4.5 Some items are individually tagged with different rights permissions and conditions. | |
4.4.6 INCEIF or INCEIF KMC should not be made liable for any copyright infringement done arising from use of items in the Repository. | |
4.5 Legal disclaimer | 4.5.1 INCEIF KMC has prepared and developed the content of this website responsibly and carefully, but disclaims all warranties, express or implied, as to the accuracy of the information contained in any of the materials on this website or on other linked websites or on any subsequent links. INCEIF KMC makes no representation or warranty, and expressly disclaims any liability with respect to copyright statements and related terms and conditions in accordance with the INCEIF KMC website disclaimer.
