Whisteblowing and hisbah: an avenue to achieve goodness and excellence of the Islamic financial institutions
Abstract
This research paper investigates the impact of whistleblowing and hisbah practices in achieving the long-term goodness and excellence (value) of the Islamic financial institutions. The study is both descriptive qualitative and quantitative with content analysis from literature, published books, articles, and questionnaire-based survey. A questionnaire survey method was conducted to collect data from a sample of fifty-six (56) participants who are working in Islamic financial institutions and other experts in Islamic finance, from different jurisdictions to generate some idea about propensity, ethical awareness and collect data about the impact of whistleblowing and hisbah practices in achieving the long-term value of the Islamic financial institutions. The empirical results of the questionnaire model indicated that whistleblowing and hisbah measured by using the indicator of "staff values" had a positive influence on achieving the long-term value of the Islamic financial institutions. Therefore, the findings or results of the study might be considered as valid inspiration for further improvement of whistleblowing and hisbah practices for the long-term success of the Islamic financial institutions. This paper leads to the conclusion that effective and efficient implementation of whistleblowing and hisbah practices can be important predictor of the long-term value of the Islamic financial institutions.
